SSA Scholarships

Can anyone who has had experience with the SSA scholarships or knows a fair amount about the process explain to me what the chances to get one are(i.e selectivity)? I am a direct admit to the Kelley School of Business, OOS. I am not a URM. Is it even worth it at this point? It seems that the only scholarship I could possibly get is the Hudson Scholars one--but even that one, according to the website is geared towards "underrepresented populations, but other applicants are considered and encouraged to apply." I have a maximum deans scholarship and will be filing a FAFSA application as well.

Kelley School Direct Admit question

I'm currently a junior and am looking at schools to apply and Kelley piqued my interest. However my GPA on a 4.0 scale is a 3.67. Also, my weighted GPA is a 5.1/5.0 (Our school reports the weighted GPA out of 5.0, BUT it's possible to get a MAX of a 6.0 if you're in AP/IB classes. As a result, many kids have 5.4/5.5 out of 5.0) and my school reports BOTH the unweighted AND weighted. So when I apply, will Kelley look at my unweighted GPA and reject me as a direct admit or would my weighted be fine? And if they do look at my weighted, do they convert that to a 4.0 scale or would I be accepted since my weighted GPA meets their requirement? Also, what's the last semester of high school that the Kelley School looks at your GPA? Is it 2nd semester of your junior year or 1st semester of senior year as well? Thanks!

Business Fraternities

Hello all, I am a sophomore entering my second semester and was wondering if anybody had any insight/advice about the various business fraternities and the rush process. First semester this year I rushed one of the smaller, newer business fraternities and made it to the final round interview but did not end up getting a bid (possibly because I had to miss one rush event due to the career fairs). If anybody can share some best practices about how to approach rush or possibly advice about the different specific organizations please let me know! Thank you for your response!

Can anyone give me some insight on when I could hear a decision for Indiana University. I am a regular decision applicant with slightly below test scores and average GPA( I do not know if that matters or not).

I applied to IU on 10/24 on 11/15 I got an email saying that they reviewed my application but they were requesting better test scores. Right away I signed up for the next ACT which was in December. I was able to only improve by a point. Do you think I have a chance of getting in? I am a white female, OOS, majoring in interior design, I have a 3.5 GPA, I improved my ACT to a 22, I was captain of the varsity soccer team, Secretary of the yearbook club, silver award in girl scout, a lot of work and community service experience, and I have a lot of experience in Interior Design. I have a really good essay, supplements and teacher recommendations and I have shown a lot of interest in the school because it is my number one.

Selective Scholarship Application Worth It?

Is completing the selective scholarship application worth it for an out of state student? It seemed like a lot of the programs they listed are either for a specific school (I'm direct admit to Kelley) or require a student to be in state (I'm from the mid atlantic). I also got accepted to Hutton and previously got a 10k per year Dean's Scholarship if that matters.

Merit Scholarship for out of state

My son did not apply until after November 1. He has been admitted. His GPA is 4.3 and ACT 31. He is waiting to hear about direct admit to Kelly. He is told he will get no merit scholarship due to missing the November 1 deadline. This makes IU an unlikely selection for him given that we are out of state. Does anyone know if we can appeal for merit scholarship?

Kelley Investment Banking Workshop Expanding

Good news for people considering Kelley with an interest in pursing Investment Banking. It appears that the class size has expanded significantly this year. This years class is 79 students which is up from 66 in the previous year. I have heard that there is a near 100% placement rate in IB if you can get into the workshop. I can only assume that the people at Kelley feel that they can expand the workshop while maintaining that kind of placement rate.

Kelley business school at Indiana petition?

To be directly admitted to the Kelley school you need at least a 3.8 on a 4.0 GPA scale weighted, and a 1360 SAT or 30 ACT. To petition you have to meet one of these requirements and be "slightly below" in the other. My GPA is a 3.95, but my SAT score is a 1200 super scored (1190 and 1180) I didn't take the ACT. What are my chances of being directly admitted off the petition? I'm in a couple business clubs and do extracurriculars. People who have heard from the petition so far, what were your stats and were you admitted or not?

IU Transfer Probability

I just submitted my transfer application to IU Bloomington but now I'm worried about my essay. I was accepted as a freshman last year, and this first semester at Ball State I earned a 4.0 GPA, but rereading my essay I fear that it's mediocre/average at best. How important is the essay for transfer students at IU/similar schools?

Hey guys, So i have registered for P120 but am unsure as what to do. I have not played piano in over a decade and essentially have forgotten everything. Having said that, I really want to relearn how to play piano well. I heard P110 is kind of a dick around class in which you don't learn much. Is it possible to start in P120 from scratch and still manage an A?

Schedule/School Advice in General -Kelley DA (long post)

This will be long and any advice, even if it only touches on one small aspect of this master list, would be appreciated. And if you have questions for me (as in, if I can help you at any way in regards to my experiences or recommendations), please let me know! I'm more than happy to help out. Context: I am an out-of-state student in the Kelley School of Business. I don't know what I want to major in, but Informations Systems interests me. I am trying to be as efficient as possible with my scheduling. I came in with 12 credits and got rid of my English and World Language & Culture requirements. I am in Hutton Honors. I might want to study abroad, but it's not a necessity for me. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - FA16 (18.5 credits): BUS-K 204 - A BUS-T 134 - A+ BUS-T 175 - A ECON-E 201 - A EDUC-X 159 - A MATH-M 119 - B PSY-P 101 - A- SPH-I 181 - A SPH-I 281 - A I also am in the KLLC and joined the KLLC Conduct Board - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - SP17 (this semester, 17.5 credits, advice for these classes would be appreciated): BUS-C 106 - Dawn Wisher BUS-A 100 - (1st 8wk) BUS-D 270 - David Harrison (2nd 8wk) BUS-K 303 - Chris Robbins (would it be better to take 304 in FA17 and replace with an A&H/something else?) BUS-L 201 - Victor Bongard BUS-G 202 - Steven Kreft PSY-P 102 - Jim Cuellar BUS-T 144 I plan on rushing for a business fraternity, I'm applying to be a Peer Tutor for K201/204, and am trying to get into Kelley Honors. I am trying to get a Psychology minor. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - SU17 (classes I might take over the summer, 9 credits): BUS-A201 - I'm not sure if I want to take this over the summer, advice appreciated MATH-M118 - I am not good at math and I've heard this class kills GPAs if taken at IU ECON-E202 - I've heard it's easier over the summer. This isn't a necessity to take *this* summer, but I do want to take it over the summer somewhere other than IU I might work part-time over the summer. I don't know if this would be achievable considering the classes I want to take. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - FA17 (15 credits; the goal for this semester is to get rid of all of my remaining I-Core requirements, so if I don't get into Kelley Honors, I want to take I-Core in the spring): BUS-C 204/205 (which?) BUS-T 275 BUS-A 202/205 (which?) ECON-E 370/STATS-S 301 (which?) BUS-? 271 PSY-P 372 I know that I could move a class from Summer 2017 to Fall 2017 and replace Psychology with it, just to lessen the course load over the summer, but I've heard that Macroeconomics and Finite Mathematics kill GPAs when taken at IU, and are easier at Ivy Tech (or some other community college), and it's also not recommended to take A201 and A202 in one semester. What should I do? Also, which course should I take as an honors course? I need 1 more in the first 4 semesters of college in order to stay in Hutton. If I keep the fall and summer as they are, I still need to take 2 A&H classes, but they are not I-Core requirements. One more psychology class to go and I get my minor. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Now for some questions: did I miss any I-Core requirements? Does anyone have advice for these classes, these teachers, these schedules, my summer school courses, anything like that? Very important: if I get into Kelley Honors, what can I do with my spring semester so that I don't waste it? And yes, I will be seeing an advisor about this (from Hutton, from Kelley, and from Kelley Honors), but I feel it'd be best to try to get advice from all angles that I can.

Has anyone got the Kelley ACE Invite yet? On the website it says the invite goes out January and it's the ninth now and I haven't received anything. Sorry if this comes off as a little pretentious but I was hoping to get the invite and was wondering if others had or not.
