Hi my son is planning on rushing his first semester at IU. We are from the east coast and don’t know anybody going or there already. How important are connections? Also what are they expected to wear for rush tables and the open events?

Kelley international direct admit schedule questions
Hello
I am kelley direct admit for Fall 2019 and I would like to ask about my schedule that IU made up for me. I'm not sure if I was able to apply for courses but I didn't know any about it and I currently have 3 courses in my schedule.
BUS - A 100
BUS - K 201
BUS - X 170
I just looked around the forum and I have seen many suggestions to drop X 170 since it is elective and substitute it to gened course. It pretty seems like I will be making my schedule for Fall 2019 when I go to the New student orientation. Would you mind me giving any suggestions for schedule building and campus life?
Thank you!

Chances of getting in!
I just graduated high school and am taking a gap year because of some family issues. I’m out of state and used to have a great GPA and many EC’s, however because of extenuating family circumstances in my junior and senior year I couldn’t focus on school as much and my gpa went from a 3.7 to a 3.0 over two years)... I am now applying to schools to go to after my gap year and am wondering what my chances are to get into Indiana:
GPA: 85 or a 3.0
ACT: 29 (maybe can get higher with a retake).
EC’s: Many volunteering, community service, and community leadership positions. As well as some jobs.
Recommendations: Can definitely secure some great recs from my counselor and teachers.
Location: OOS
-Also plan on submitting an essay-
Thanks for the help!

Letters of Rec?
IUB admissions open soon and I want to catch as many scholarships as possible, so that means applying ASAP. However, I don't have letters of rec and would have to wait until school starts to request them, which means applying almost a month later. I'm from out of state, so I'm trying to bring the tuition down to at least an in-state level so that I can afford to go. Should I wait for the letters of rec to apply or should I apply ASAP? Thanks everyone.

Got an email concerning LLCs
Just recently, I received an IU Housing email stating that there were certain LLCs and thematic communities which still had space available that I have the option to still apply to. I completed my housing contract in April and my top choice was an Honors community, but I can see that on the list of communities listed as still containing space, the HRCs are not among them.
I'm thinking I should probably be concerned about this given the supposed state of housing at IU right now. Can I assume I won't be assigned to an HRC regardless of what I do next? Do you think it'd be a good idea to apply to some LLCs I'm interested in so that I don't receive a particularly sketchy dorm assignment?

Teter Bed Config Confusion
Hello, new to this community. I've learned a week or so ago that I will get to live in Teter, which I am excited for but the information on how the bed layout works has been confounding. IU sent an email whose wording implied that my roommate or I were required to choose one of the bed layouts on the "bedloft.com" website. However the only options presented there was bunked beds and Captain bunked beds. Personally I would really prefer separated beds but this was not a choice. But, this afternoon I got a letter in the mail from Teter which seems to imply that I have the option of not doing anything with the bedloft website, in which case we would get the 'default' layout of two separate beds.
So what is the truth here? Are separate beds an option at all at Teter?

Football & Basketball Season Tickets
Hi, I am trying to decide if I want to buy season tickets for football and basketball or if I should wait and then just buy tickets to the games I know I will be attending. If someone could let me know how buying tickets outside of just getting season tickets that would be great! Also, for those of you who bought season tickets, is it worth it? Do you go to most of the games?

SSA
Hello, I know we don't have to supply letters of recommendation for IUB, but for the SSA we do. Do we have to wait for the SSA to come out before sending? How will IU know that the letter we sent is for the SSA and not admissions?

Chances of Kelley Petition
HI, How likely is it to get into Kelley as a freshman if you have to petition? My son has a 1470 SAT, but his unweighted GPA is 3.6. His school does not offer weighted GPAs. I know his SAT is high, but I'm not sure how willing they are to look at the petitions when they probably have enough regular direct admits.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Double Major in Business and English
Lately I've been thinking that I will be very unhappy if I only pursue a degree in business here at IU, but I don't want to give up the usefulness of such a degree in the job market, so I don't want to just drop and solo English. What's the feasibility of pursuing both of these majors? I've already completed most gen ed requirements (language, nat/science and math) from dual credit and AP.

IU SPEA Degree for Business Career?
I'm gonna be straight up honest. My son came to IU aiming for Kelley School, but his GPA shows that's not going to happen. He has always been Finance and math oriented person, so he now wants to pursue a degree in Public Financial Management at O'Neill(SPEA) school with a minor in Financial Literacy from Kelley, hoping to secure a banking or finance industry job in the future.
Long story short, is SPEA degree and minor from Kelley going to help him get the job done? I heard majority of SPEA grads end up in private sector, even though they're a Public Affairs school.
Would it be better to just major in Econ+Math instead?

Can any of you guys answer some questions about the consulting workshop?
Do any of you guys know the acceptance rate? And is the average GPA really a 3.9+? What else is important to know when applying? What does Professor Rubin look for? Sorry if I sound naive, I'm just interested in going into consulting coming out of college and I am currently a freshman Kelley DA.

Chance me @ IU
I have an on par sat with what IU considers there middle 50% range (1180), but my main concern is my gpa. I have a 3.295 cumulative gpa, which I’ve worked really hard to get up from freshmen year of high school. My freshmen year sucked in terms of academically and personally but since then I’ve had 3.7 every semester and then my last semester of junior year ended with a 4.112. I’ve taken a mix of honors and AP classes every year and have been very successful. I also go to a high school in Indiana that IU knows is very competitive. I spend 5 days a week in colorguard and winterguard year round, so I’m always busy (practice is 3 hours a day during the week and then 6 hours on Saturday). But as I said my ultimate concern is gpa, looking just at that might say my academic record is less then stellar but if you look year to year, I’ve shown so much progression and growth in my grades in the past 3 years, will that be enough?

IU Bloomington Kelley Standard Admission Schedule
I am currently in the process of applying to IU Bloomington and based on my stats, I'll most likely have to get into Kelley through standard admission. I currently have over 30 credit hours in dual credits through my local community college. I think I'm pretty strong in math since I've always taken the highest levels available and have gotten A's in the classes. Any tips on which required classes I should take and when? I've heard that people tend to struggle in the weed-out classes and I was wondering if there are any ways I can avoid them or any tips to do well in those types of classes?
This is currently what the website says is required for standard admission:
Completion of a minimum of 30 hours of college coursework. For most students, this will require two semesters on the IU Bloomington campus. We include the credits from any college-level coursework on your transcript.
Completion of at least 12-13.5 credit hours from the following courses on the IU Bloomington campus:
BUS-K 201 or BUS-K 303
Choose one additional option from this list: ENG-W 131*, BUS-C 104, BUS-C 204, BUS-L 201, or BUS-G202 AND BUS-D270
Choose two additional options from this list: BUS-A 201, BUS-A 202, ECON-E 201, ECON-E 202, MATH-M 118*, MATH-M 119*, ECON-E 370*, or BUS-A 100 and BUS-G 202

Indiana Admission
I have recently applied to Indiana University and was wondering what my chances of getting in are. I am from Texas if that helps at all?
My GPA is 3.00 flat
ACT-29
3 AP classes
90+hours of community service
Capitan and MVP of the track team
Took a one week leadership class at Yale university.
I have been told by many people that I will be fine, but after looking at their requirements I don’t know what to think. IU is my #1 as well.
